Lockdown Wave: bedroom mural
Project Type
Indoor Mural
Date
Covid Days - 2020
When covid-19 hit, I found myself itching for some kind of permanence amidst the unpredictability and uncertainty. I was 14, had just dyed my hair red for the first time, and somehow convinced my parents to purchase paints for me to paint (strictly) 1 wall of my room. Specifically the one you walk in from, that the window faces, so that the room wouldn't feel too "busy" or small. Understanding this, I was faced with the challenge of painting over a door and around some installed bookshelves but I made it work.
Using a projector (positioned from outside my window on the driveway...) to get the scale of Hokusai's Great Wave onto my wall, I soon decided that illustrating from my phone screen would be far easier.
This artwork is still unfinished to this day (a thought that keeps me awake some nights). However, over Christmas 2025 I might try to smash out all the intricate details I never got around to as I was living away from home since 2022.
